Tank update and new critter!
Here is our tank so far. And here is our first critter-not counting snails and crabs. His name is Pierre. I had to rotate the pic to fit-he's really upside down.
I'll update this thread every couple of weeks with progress. Right now it's 2 weeks old. We had a very small nitrate rise (it only got to 10) last week but now everything's good again. We have one more piece of LR to add that is still being cured at our LFS.
Enjoy!

On a side note, I am having a small water temp problem. It gets up to around 82.5 after having the lights on it all day with the lid down. Some people have recommended leaving the top up and that does work somewhat but it looks ugly .
I saw this -

Does anyone use this or have suggestions on what to do other than leaving the top up during the day?

He comes out more at night. I think he's still trying to get used to my face staring at him all day! I read that it may take a few days to get their nerve back. He isn't shy when it's time to eat! He's only been here for 2 days though. I think he'll be more active during the day soon.

Do you run the fans? Sometimes it gets hot in mine but not above 81. Haha my grandmother (yes grandparents can like reef tanks to :P) put her 30 gallon right in front of a mini AC window unit sets it for 75 haha it works but isnt the most attractive thing in the world.

3rd week update.
Hey guys! We just added our last piece of LR and 2 new critters today. The emerald crabs are having a great time so far. We added them cause 1) because they are cool 2) because one of our LR pieces is infested with sargassum grass. Kramer (the crab in the picture) went straight for the grass and is going to town on the stuff. George (the other crab) immediatly found a hiding spot. He'll warm up.

We are planning on making the second chamber a refuge this weekend and then adding a few fish in the coming month.
Enjoy!

Very Nice. Placing a fan blowing over the tank will help with the temp. I have heard good things about the ica and have been told it will work on the 12 jbj. I got one for my pod but have yet to get it installed because I suck at powertools and the shield around the fan needs to be cut out. Someday it will get done. For now the fan works great keeps the tank at 78-80

Another update!
We have done quite a bit the last few weeks. We have added a mated Yellow Watchman Goby pair, a Ocellaris Clownfish, and a Firefish. Also we added a Galaxea piece (upper right in the pic), Star polyp (upper middle), Ricordea mushroom (middle of pic). We don't plan on adding anymore fish but do want some more coral, maybe a plate and torch... any suggestions?
Also the second pic shows where I cut away the black film on the back of our JBJ's second chamber so I could use it as a refuge. We got some Chaetomorpha from theplatypus (much thanks) and put it back there with a few pieces of small LR. We bought a small desk lamp with a 13 watt flourescent light to light it.
The third pic shows what I get to do tomorrow. we bought this- http://nanotuners.nanocustoms.com/na...4148fb5c0db71b
wish me luck =P
