definitely no larger than 20g... anything bigger is just a regular tank.

Well I think anything under a 55 is a nano but that is me.
Buts seriously, I think 20 and under for total volume of water is perfect. But I would still like to see it broken up a bit.
Maybe like this.
5 gallons and under.
10 gallons
20 gallons
Over all I think we can get some really cool systems showing up here. I think doing this might be more fun. we can get those really experienced folks to maybe toss their hands into picos.

I vote for 5 gallons and under. It is great for a build off. It will be less costly and when the build off is over we can move the live stock to our already NANO Tanks. Or have another NANO. Either way we win...

I like 30g for total water volume. I lets you include common sizes of tanks like 15, 20L, 20H and so on without restricting you using a margarine dish for a sump. I think we can all agree that sumped systems tend to be much more stable and healthier. Plus sumps are cool to look at, especially those DIY guru sumps. Either way I will go with the majority on this.

20 and below is what I voted for.
Just out of curiousity, what prizes have been aquired? I think a few prizes might create a little more interest, and therefore possibly increasing the total number of entrants in the build off.

I think a part of the prize should be a stint as TOTM.

I'm new around here but would love to get in on this.
I was just thinking about getting a 12" Cube for the office and this is just the thing I need to get me started on it.
BTW, I went for 20 gal total size, 30 just seems too large to me for a nano, although it does restrict some of the standard sizes.

Keep in mind yall. 30g is the "total" volume. Meaning you can run a 30 display with no sump or a 10g display with a 20g sump. Yall get the point. I agree that 20g should be the max for a display. 30g just allows for a standard size sump that can handle the needs of a demanding nano. Think of it. SPS nano, high flow, ultra clean. Try passing 400gph through a 5g sump, micro bubble hevean. The majority has the say, I just feel that most are being led to believe that we all want to set up 30g displays with a sump. That, I admit, would not be a nano. But a 20g with say a 10g sump is still, in my opinion, a nano. I don't know about the rest of yall but I wanna get this going.

"How else could I say it, I don't speak no other languages" Bubba Sparxx, "Ugly"
Maximum system volume seemed the correct descriptor.
Myself, I'm going with a 1.5 gallon display and a sump to match the total volume voted for!

for nano, I was thinking 10g display and 10g for sump and accesories. you see alot of members with 20g and 30g display tanks, so nano being small. to me it's like bonsai trees, I have trees in my yard, some are small, but if one were in a flower pot or planter box inside...
