surface scum ...

My 75G tank had an overflow so I never had this problem. My new 10G nanoreef gets bad surface scum ... without an overflow any bright ways to get rid of it?

thanks!

Craig

skimmer! and make sure you have an appropriate amount of water movement, especially at the surface to break up the scum.

Hagen makes a surface skimmer that attaches to practically any power filter. This is one of the neatest products I have seen and is cheap too.

Like Rick O said it's neat and really works great. You regulate between top and low return, but you should have a skimmer too!

You can only put so much equipment on a nano. On a 10 gal you can do water changes in less time than it takes to maintain a skimmer.

I use a hang-on filter with live rubble on my ten gallon. I take the rubble out if I need to run carbon for a while. My water is always crystal clear, and the water pouring back into the tank creates some movement. I don't use a skimmer, but I don't have any fish...just a mantis shrimp, other inverts.
