Starting a frag/back-up tank...

I wanted to wait until I moved into my new house before I really did anything about this idea I've had in the back of my mind...
Right now I only have a JBJ 12g but I'm wanting to get something around a 65-95g in the next 6 months. I have a basic Eclipse (freshwater) 10g tank sitting around empty.
What I want to do essentially, is have a basic tank for fragging xenia and mushrooms, as well as a back-up in case I need to isolate or quarantine a fish due to bullying, illness, etc. I don't want to spend a lot of money getting this tank frag-ready if possible, so I'm looking for suggestions.
On a regular basis, I would just have small pieces of rock in there for xenia/etc to attach to. I live about 45 minutes away from the closest decent LFS and they won't give much money for frags that aren't attached to anything; so what I would do is just put xenia frags/whatever into this tank, give it time to attach to something, and go to the LFS about once every month-and-a-half or so. The tank would NOT be for show.
Those of you who have a back-up tank like this, what did you use to set it up? Is it worth it for me to keep this basic 10g tank? It has its basic lighting and filtration system too. I don't want to be wasteful and throw it out, but I don't want to be so cheap that the tank can't support my goal.
Thanks in advance!

you would most likely have to spend $50 or depending on lighting. also 10 gallons isnt ideal for a frag tank because the water can change ( heat, salinity,PH ) easy. it might be a waste of money and time.
