looking more into it i decided that i wanted a skimmer, just cant figure out how to do it, id almost need a sump to run anything decent, and the whole point of a nano for me was to have a small, simple tank. so i think im just gonna stay skimmerless, although i have had thoughts of trying to diy an in-tank skimmer out of a small maxijet, and some pvc pipes

Nano-Cube 6 - no skimmer,
5-6g hexagon - no skimmer,
10g with a scooter blenny, fed by frozen food, - ASM Mini for 10g tank.

After using skimmers (ASM G-3, ASM Mini, Lee's CC, Visi-Jet) developed strong dislike of them - noise and constant adjustments are far away from my idea of a hobby for pleasure.
Still have to use in the tanks with particular inhabitants

For those of you tryin to figure out what to do on you nano for a skimmer (dont have sump, not enough room, blah blah) Ive got something for ya! Im using a Sapphire Aquatics Skimmer on my 10g, custom made only sold in two places (that I know of) nanotuners.com and sapphireaquatics.com. But I bought there NC12 model and it fits in the back of my AC110, so nothing shows in the display. This skimmer rocks. Pretty quiet, effecient, some micro bubbles but they go away after a while. Ill post pic in a min.

I cant run a skimmer on my 10 gallon nano. It is an eclipse hood modified to hold 72 watts of PC lighting for softies and few SPS coral like the Monti's. There is no area for a skimmer on the tank because the eclipse hood. So i do weekly WC's of either 1-2 gallons.

I have an 8 gallon bio cube without a skimmer and everything is doing well. I think it all depends on how it is setup. For me I do not run any type of sponges. Hate them all they do is collect s**t which causes you phosphates to go up. Next I took out all the bio balls and put in a sack of carbon, Rowa-phos, and ceramic rings. Added 10 lbs of live rock and 5 lbs of crushed coral changed out main pump to one with 30 more gallons an hour and added an extra 60 gallon an hour power head. Changed both the lights to 50/50 bulbs and have been extremely happy with the results. Good looking corals and happy inhabitants.

I have skimmers on a 120 and 150 reef ..both have very few small fish.(5 damsels, 2 gobies).. and feel that the skimmer removes a lot of the bioload from fish waste and uneaten food. This is important to reduce the nitrate load which most coral will not tolerate, and the phosphate load which supports hair algae.

But I also have a 24g with no skimmer, that has one small fish, and 4 peppermint shrimp, along with a few zoos and a toadstool leather.

It has calepera algae growing to help with nitrate bioload, and even a small amt of hair algae. As you can imagine, it is not pristine clean. The zoos love it .. so it remains without a skimmer.

I do not do new water changes.. but monthly swap 2 gal out with the larger tanks. This helps remove some of the protein load I believe.

If you want a clean, viable tank, you will need a working refugium, and a properly adjusted skimmer.. and that may take some experimentation..

I have Taam Rio Nano skimmer on my 10 Gal. This skimmer works and does not release any bubbles into the tank.
