Set up my five gallon eclispe...

Over the weekend...The inhabitant...The hated mantis shrimp. This guy is cool though. As long as they aren't int he reef tank they are fun to watch. He's a Peacock Mantis, got it from the LFS for some frags...

Hey toad,

Can a mantis theoritically bang into a glass tank and crack it? I had thought to buy the one at FS&M some time ago when they had one but I was worried that it would crack a small thin glass tank as well and the last time I was near a mantis, I had two stiches put in my thumb and another tetnus shot. (The first one was a clubber, and the second one was a spearer)

Maybe, I am thinking of getting a small tank for one. I am on a project this weekend to move my 3 gal eclipse tank into a 5 gal eclipse tank. (Actually not an eclipse but I am rigging my old hood to work.

I had one of those monster Peacock Mantis Shrimp with a tail less Lion fish in a 20 gallon tank for a long time. No worries.

Used to feed then little feeder goldfish. The lionfish was a bit more aggressive so sometimes the Lion got 2 and the shrimp went hungry.

Before anybody asks --- The Lion fish lost it's tail due to a bacteria infection at the LFS. It healed but never grew the tail back. After seeing it in the store for many months I felt sorry for it and decided he could be the Mantis' friend.

It does make sense. Plastic tanks may carry the impact a mantis might make. Glass will break easily. Unless the plastic tank is too thin or the glass tank is too thick.
