Ricordias

I have seen multiple posts with ricordias in substandard lighting and seeming to thrive.

My nano is a 5 gal tank with 36 watts of PC lighting. I have shrooms and xenia but would like ricordias. My larger display tanks have ricordias but I have seen them move from the shadows into the brighter lights. I figured that they need the lighting for photosynthesis.

Does anyone have any info contrary to this.

Ray

All I know is when I saw them down in Mexico in the wild they were in waist deep water in the reef flats so there wasn't any surface waves to reduce the light. Super bright light conditions.

Bright oranges and blues. Made me drool and I was tempted to bag some up.

actually ray, i have some ricordia green w/ orange rim and 1 tricolored one (green body, purple rim and pink mouth) but none of the exotic colored ones in my 46 g bow front. they do nice w/ just the coralife 192 watt light. i have a pale blue one in the nano i have at work 11 g w/ 38 watt light. all of them seem to be doing fine. in fact the one in the nano which has been there for a week is about half way up the tank and really likes in there. the ones in my 46 are at the bottom of my tank. i have found that soft corals w/ less coloring or the bland looking ones perfer less light. i found this out after owning a white hammer that sunburned to death in my tank =(. so i decided to ask the lighting manufactures about it. i was told that corals w/ less color in them like my hammer were probably shaded or from deeper water so too much light would kill them b/c they dont have that zoo whatever to protect them. and back to the ricordea i plan on buying more of nice colored ones to see what happens. i have read that the ones w/ intense color need to be kept closer to the top of the tank for more light.

Well I am thinking of ordering from Blaine. One of the Local Fish stores had talked to me about doing an order from fromthesea.org. There are some really really cool zoos and ricordias on his website.
