Replace skimmer skimmet with what?

Im running a simple Lee's skimmer in my Eclipse since I dont know whats in it that caused it to become a "death chamber", since all the water parameters tested okay.

But Im wondering in a few days I should have collected something even if it collects more water than yuck, as long as it's foul looking I'll be happy.

But what do you replace it with, RO/DI water or do you just top off with salt water for the water that gets caught up in the skimmer.

I realize that it should be pretty dry foam, and it's not collected anything but a few drops since I put it in today, but Im wondering for the long term. I imagine that the water or skimmet that it takes out of the tank should be replaced with salt water, but I want to make sure.

Im bidding on a refractometer that The Reef Tank is offering on ebay (so please dont bid anymore, I can't afford to go above my highest bid ) but thats not won until tommorrow evening assuming nobody goes above my high bid. So since swingarms are considred inaccurate, Im wondering what to replace the skimmit with, saltwater or RO/DI water.

Thanks,

Sorry to hear about your problems in your other post.

You really shouldn't be pulling that much skimmate out. You are definatly evaporating much more water than skimmate so I would replace any losses with RO/DI.

When you do your weekly (or whenever) WC check you salinity level and adjust accordingly. I run mine at 1.025 using a refractometer. On a dip-n-read I would run it at 1.023 since they usually register lower than actual.
