Protein skim for the nano?

Well I ordered a JBJ 12 gallon instead of the 24 and I have run into a problem. After emailing www.premiumaquatics.com asking them to recommend a protein skimmer that would work for this tank I was told they could not find one by any company that would fit. they said I could modify the tank by putting a submersible pump in and drilling 2 holes for the skimmers tubes. Is this worth it? Can I have a succsseful 12 gallon tank without a skimmer? Thanks - Jason

Yeah, i would just keep up on water changes and do without the skimmer on a tank that small. You can pretty much keep up to like a 20 or 30 gallon pretty easily without a skimmer. Just have to make sure to keep up on water changes...

thanks. I noticed your comment on friends don't let friends buy brown zoanthids. All I ever see in our local store is brown. I have seen online pics from these mail order companys that are beutiful bright greens, purples and reds, are these hard to get a hold of or is it just my store sucks? Are zoanthids good for beginners?

zoos are great for beginners, but beware, they are addictive. also some can cause illness, it is wise to invest in a box of latex gloves if you decide to start keeping them. every once in a while i poison myself, not sure what colony it is or i would have removed it by now. my reaction is that everything i eat tastes metallic and super salty, to the point where it is uncomfortable to eat or drink anything for a good 6 hours.

Do some searches on google, some hawiian tribes used to tip darts with zooanthid juice and use them in mortal combat; yes they can be deadly if handled incorrectly.

a skimmer is not needed, i havent used a skimmer since i have a 40g. i now have a nanocube 12 and as long as you do atleast a 1g water change weekly you should be fine.
