Picky and Territorial Snails

In my nano I have 2 Turbo snails And one unknown small black snail(i think its a Cerith) The unknown just hangs out on the glass. The other 2 of course eat the rocks algee but the thing is they are picky about what they eat and where they eat it. Each onw stays on its side but they only eat brown algee. Not red, Not green, Just brown. And the orst part is that they only eat for about an hour before they stopeating for the day. What is wrong with my snails or is this just what SW snails do?

welcome to SW!!

you find out quickly that certain critters will only eat certain things. this is why an assortment of snails is recommended. each snail likes to eat a certain kind of algae. they are picky eaters. snails also only eat for a short period of time per day. they then sleep.

sounds like you are in the beginning of the tank cycle. you will get many of these different algae blooms. these will last until the tank matures, at about the 1 year mark. this is not a hobby for the impatient. this is why recommend to people to not put anything in the tank except for LR for the first 2 months. you will drive yourself crazy worrying about how to cure the algae blooms. just let them do their things.

Yea i added about 4 more of thos stupid turbos that i dont really want (they are all ican get for now) these new ones just hang up side down. I got a small non-perminent fether duster that theyall seem to avoid. I had some molley fry in my tank that the duster ate. I cant wait for january when i can (hopefully) start adding livestock.i have one cerrith that loves the glass. I need a lot more of the cuz its gettin real messy.I had my true first SW experience yester day when i decided to eat a bit of algee. I just thought one thing
"If snails eat it all day long it must be good"
i have one word for that saying
