Newbie questions! new here

hey, im rather new here.
name is mohd redza.
you can call me redza or red.
im currently a newly hatched egg in the saltwater world. dont know nothing about it. i really like the concept of having saltwater in a tank. like sea fish and stuff. what im going for is what i heard. fish only with live rock. the tank will be a nano 9l tank. and will house little fishes like clown fish. im still planning, so the tank wont be here until i know what should i do. th tank also has a condensation lid on!
heres a picture of what it will look like, what tank is it. what filter is it, and so on. got this idea from the tank advertisement. will post up pics up later when i have enough posts.
but i have a few questions,
to topoff evaporation water, we use?? tap water? salty waterr??
to do a water change?? tap? salty??
wow. i had a billion of questions just now. and i forgot all of them !!!

Welcome to TRT,

Your top-off should be distilled or preferably RO/DI water.

Water changes should be 5-10% with salt mix.

If you don't have a book on salt water set-up I would suggest The New Maquarium By Paletta (spelling?) it gives step by step instruction of FOWLR tank set-up.

HTH

Yes, on the distilled or RO/DI water. You do not want to start using tap water as it may contain all kinds of chemicals that will only cause problems for your tank as it matures.

next question, i live in malaysia, and m small tanks especially betta tanks tend to have overheating problems, is there a way to cool them down using a fan instead of blowing the top of the water? cause the lastime i let my fan ripple the surface, i had to top off like alot of water

Evaporative cooling, blowing the fan across the water surface, is usually one of the most effective methods without a chiller.

Welcome to TRT!!!

How long has your Nanocube been set up for? Are you sure you have completed the nitrogen cycle process? You may also want to consider getting those damsels out of there before you begin loading any corals into the tank, as it will be a pain to try to get them out later on.

I started my tank with tap water...huge mistake! I started to get brown aglae all over my beautiful LR. I changed to distilled water for water changes and never looked back. The money I spend on water is well worth it.

It's either a fan and add more topoff or buy a chiller.

Sorry for the late reply. The brown stuff is diatoms. They feed off the silicates in your system. Once the silicates are gone they will die off, but it can look pretty bad before then. You can siphon some of them off when you do a water change, or add some critters that will eat them for you. Clean up crew members, but not fish at this point.
