Cool

New to Nanos!

Hey everybody!

I just bought a 6gal. Nano Cube brand new. It says it comes with everything I'll need, including a LED moonlight! I have a 55gal. reef tank at my house, but I wanted a small tank at work so I can put it up on my desk. I've only done big tanks, this is my first small one. I pretty much want to just put a clown or 2 and maybe a few corals. Does anyone have any advise for a beginner? I bought my 55gal already established. How do I need to go about the cycling process?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me

Welcome to TRT!You do the same as your big reef!Put some live rock up to 12lbs and you let the tank cycle till there is no ammonia. Then check all your readings and if all are ok then you can start adding!

Welcome to TRT ! are you going to use sand in the bottom? to get started you should be able to use water and a piece of liverock from your 55 to get going and that will cut down your cycling time. I think a 6gal tank my be to small for clowns depending on the species some can get quite large.

Thanks for the quick replies! Yes I do want to put sand. I want to put the "Nemo" type clowns in there. The really little ones.

So do you mean all I have to do to cut down cycling time is put water and rock from my established 55gal tank in the small tank?

Also, does the Nano setup really come with everything I need to set it up & get it going? Or am I going to have to buy all kinds of other stuff for it in order to set it up?

Thanks!

I have the 24 gal version I'm not sure how much different the 6 gal is. Remove the bag of ceramic rings and bio balls (if they came with it) you will be using live rock and frequent waterchanges for filtration so you won't need them. as long as you keep up with carbon changes and rinsing the sponges you will be all set! I would only add 6ish#'s of rock 12 might make it to crowded. After you add the sand water and rock I would moniter the water for about a month at least to make sure that nothing died off the rock from the switch between tanks. If you do a 1gal waterchange every week nothing else should be needed!
