New Nano Setup

I just got my order from Marine Depot. I am going to setup a new 12 gallon nano. This is what I have setup thus far.

Eclipse 12 gallon acrylic tank
Aqua C remora and skimmer overflow box(to hide the pump)
Aqua Clear 70 hang on filter

I am just starting the cycle process today. Will have pics up tomorrow. The big question right now is what type of lighting do I want to do. The remaining space available on the top of the tank is 18" to 20" long by 8.5" wide. I am debating whether I should go all the way and get a 70w double ended mh pendant or to try and intigrate a 96w power compact into the eclipse hood. Any sugestions?

What types of corals do you plan to keep?

I personally would go MH right off the bat.

Here are the pics of my new nano

Here are the new pics on my nano. In answer to your question it really depends on the light that I get. Right now I have a 6 gal setup with a 40w pc that does great with softies and I also have an anemone in it. MH is too much for that nano since all the pendants out there are too big for that tank. I am more concerned with heating the water up. Personally I would go mh all the way, but I wanted other peoples opinion who have done a 12 gallon and by their experience what problems if any they faced.

Nice pics.

Well, lighting depends on what you really want to keep for corals; but then I see what your saying about heat. If your not going to keep any acro's or other high-lighters, then PC is a good route.

I have a 175 over a 25 gallon system and have no heat problems; it just takes having enough airflow to dissapate most of the heat before it is transfered to the water.

Here is a link to Roger's (yardboy's) nano, a 10 gallon with a 175, the last I heard that there weren't any major heat problems; he hasn't been around for a while tho.

I would hope so. I have had a lot of luck with my 6 gal at work. Speaking of which I should probably post a new picture of it. I have got tons of coral line algae all over in this thing. Zoos just love it. They multiply over night. It is crazy.

Check out my new lighting

I just got my 70w double end mh pendant. How does it look. If fits perfectly. Just got to test out if I need a chiller or not. My order of live rock comes in a few days and I should be ready soon to add some livestock.
