New nano Reef

Hi Guys,
I am trying to get back into reefkeeping I had a 30G for two years, but then I moved and had to take the tank down.

I am just starting a nano FOWLR, the tank is about 7 1/2 gallons, and I have one 13W mini Compact so far for lighting. Unfortunately I am in Greece doing this, so my access to supplies is limited. I am planning on a LS bed of approx 1"-2", and 15lb of live rock. Two quick questions.

1.) With this lighting, will I be ok for FO, and maybe some polyps or mushrooms eventually?

2.) Should I use one or two powerheads?

Thanks,
Rob

well there have been some intersting posts one that has so far helped me. this is the post http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...855#post226855
very helpful post but it is 20 pgs long.
I think you would be fine with that lighting its about the same as my 20 long that has shrooms and zenia.
I would go for 2 PH if u can find them

Thanks for the post, but when I clicked on the link, it took me to:

The THINK Tank > Why are people so afraid to talk about phosphates?

and was a discussion about hervibores and algae production...

Ok, when I saw 20pgs long, I automatically assumed a 20G LONG. I am reading it now... Thanks again!

Hi Guys,
Here is what I have so far... I need to get a few more pieces of LR from the LFS, they are getting some new rock Weds.

I also have to attach a background, my wife was adament about NOT painting the back of the tank!

Looking at your pic the tank looks to be fairly deep. 13 watts would easily work for FO but you might consider adding more in the future when you start putting a few of the easier corals in there.

Thanks for the comments!

The tank is 15"x9"x12 1/2" roughly converted into inches. It is approx 30 litres fully filled. The problem is there is no lip, it is glass at the top with no plastic. The hood that came with it was plastic with only about 1 6" space for lighting so we removed it for a glass top we had cut, but that is tough because it sits directly on the glass. Would another 13W PC be ok, or should I think of building a hood with the 2X32 CSL retro kit?

If you are really only doing FO with maybe a few very simple corals then another 13w will do.

BUT

If your like most people and will eventually want to put more corals in there then you might consider saving your money on the extra 13w and go for the 2 x 32w
