New Mantis Tank
After some thought and deliberation, I moved my mantis into my old 5.5 gallon. The tank has two 15 watt ten gallon striplights on top, and an aquaclear 200 for circulation/filtering with carbon if i need it. Anyway...what would be the most light demanding species of corals I could put in there...I want to have a tank full of softies, but would I be able to put an LPS or two? ANyway...just thought I'd ask. Thanks, have a good one guys!

You might be able to get by with a few of the easier LPS corals.
Candy Coral
Frogspawn
Things like that. If you have a bigger tank setup you can always move them if they start loosing all their color.

Or just use reverse logic on this problem.
Take a coral out of the bigger tank and give it a try in the smaller one. Figure out what works then go buy small specimens for the small tank.

I had a hairy mushroom in my tank, and Teensy never bothered it. Hopefully he won't bother any corals. I just want some zoo's, shrooms, and xenia for a nice little easy to take care of reef! THe mantis would be the showcase specimen, of course!

I've never had problems with mantis bugging corals. However, I don't know how good your LPS will look under NO lighting.
They usually flouresce (sp?) better with a little actinic.

I have normal bulbs right now, but I was planning on getting one 50/50 10k/actinic NO 15watt and one pure actinic 03 15watt. That would be the light combo...but I don't know if that would be enough white light to keep the corals healthy. I probably won't try any LPS for a while in there, or until I have some nice ones in my big tank I could just frag and try.

Nothing ventured.....nothing gained.
Especially since you have a big tank to move them to if necessary.

anyone here ever used guppies in saltwater before? I would like to feed my mantis some every so often, but I don't want to use a fish that will die right away in saltwater.

Guppies are pretty hardy and so are mollies or feeder goldfish
