New BTA Question
Hey everyone.
Well, I just picked up a bta for my nano tank. All parameters are normal. It has 1 clown fish, 1 fire shrimp, mushroom coral, pulsing xenia and 1 turbo snail. My BTA is beautiful but I have one question. Is the BTA nocturnal. When my lights are on, it's compact, but not tight, but when my moonlights are on and the regular lights are off, the BTA opens up. It seems to be doing just fine. Just wanted to know if this is normal.
Thanks, Ed.

Welcome tho TRT!
Perfectly normal, they go into a feeding stage at night, very long stringy tentacles.
Any pics? We love pics here.

Thanks for the welcome. I will post pictures when I get a chance. So should I feed it at night time then?

I have been having trouble feeding my BTA. It isn't taking any of the krill that Im feeding it. I have been placing it over the "mouth" of the BTA. Any suggestions?

You can feed it whenever, it will take food anytime.
BRI690, how long have you had your anem, how much lighting, what size of tank, water params? Many things can affect thier health and hunger. The krill should stick pretty will to its tentacles, usually their "stickiness" and rediness to take food is a guage of thier health. If you have enough lighting there's no need to feed it, but my two love the occasional shrimp/squid chunk.

Your lighting is plenty, the reason it's probably not taking food is cause it's still adjusting, since its only a week old. Dont worry

I've had my BTA for about a month, and he's never gotten sticky. I can't feed him any meaty foods, because they don't stick. Is there something wrong with him that I can change?

How much light do you have?
How big of tank?
What are all your water levels?

i am not familiar with a 65 watt halide unit... are you sure it isnt a pc lamp?
as the bta adjusts and gets a happy home within the tank it will start to come out durring the daylight hours.

Wharyat- Your blinking mandarin just freaked me out!!! I've been studying microbiology for a straight week now and I came on the board to rest my frazzled brain and that picture started moving around- I was thinking I was losing it. Does it sort of move as well?? I know the blinking is real- but is it 'floating' or do I need to rest my nerves? How is your gorgeous friend doing? My mandarin is my love, I can tell you fell pretty hard and fast for yours as well. Hope all is well!

Well I have accomplished set I have set out to do! Somebody in a different thread asked if it blinked so now it does . Nope, doesnt move at all, yet.
She's doing great so far, I think dragonets are my new favorite fish, just added a scooter blenny to the tank, and it's cool to watch them swim together. My mandarin is still the favorite (dont let the blenny know that).
