Nano Skimmer

I bought a Current Fission nano skimmer for my JBJ 24DX. After using it for about 3 weeks i can't tell if it's doing anything. I set it up like the instructions said to do but i was wondering about the drain for the cap. It is pluged off from the factory. Do i need to run a hose to it? I can't really seem to see if the skimmer is effective.

I bought one too a while ago. If you look on the side of the pump you can adjust the flow. I gave up on the skimmer though. Don't even have it hooked up anymore.
