Nano Fuge?

I have a Nano Cube 28 Gallon HQI tank. You know--the dealy with the attached, rear sump? The sump as 5 chambers, depicted in my diagram, below.

The question is...can I build a Nano Fuge in the attached, rear sump? I'm thinking the middle chamber would do nicely, if I remove the JBJ filtration cartridge now installed there.

Anyone done this? If so, how do I build it?

I wonder if such a refugium comprised of Chaeto in a filter bag, positioned over Live Rock, would simply backfire on me. Some have offered the notion that using the middle chamber in this regard will simply cause the chamber to become clogged with detritus.

Is there a way to use a mechanical filter above the fuge to prevent the accumulation of detritus? If so, how would the chaeto get light, if its surface is obscured by a mechanical filter/sponge?

All help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, I have never had any of the all in one systems. Most folks don't use the mechanical filter pads to catch detritus. I would use just a ball of chaeto with no filter pad or media bag. That is if I understand the set up without looking at it

My chaeto acts as a mechanical filter and does catch detritus, I take it out and rinse it in the sink regularly. YMMV

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

YW, chaeto is pretty tough, it handles a tap water rinse no prob. Give it a shot and see how it turns out. I have seen nanos that simply put chaeto near a powerhead behind a rock in the main display as well.
