Nano Cube Problems
I might get a 12g Nano cube dx soon, was wondering what problems you guys have had with them, such as overheating and such? Thanks.

I have an all-enclosed 9 gallon Odyssea and I haven't had any problems with my tank, so far. If I had to do it all over, I wouldn't have bought the all-enclosed system. Due to the fact that you can't change much in it for pumps, filterpumps, etc. But... I still like it and it looks nice and neat. Good luck. Keep us posted.
And... Welcome to TRT! Nice to have you aboard.

My Nano keeps creeping up to 86deg Some one said put a fan across the top? It is a full hood.? What do you think about leaving the lid open a few hours a day? will that still be enough light?

You can lift the "feeding lid" or just prop the entire lid up an inch or so and aim the fan across the water. just be careful if you have any fish that are known jumpers

I am a beginner and I have the 12g for 5 months now. I have had no problems with it. Like states above there is the drawback like being unable to hang things off. But with regular water changes I do not have to hang anything off. When the system gets heated I do open the feeding lid. I suppose as it gets warmer and into summer here I will run the fan blowing across the top. Overal I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 4. Good Luck!

the only problem i ever had w/ mine was cracking in the back around one of the hinges... got a replacement, and havnet had any problems with it. i upgraded the fans though, i have one fan blowing air in and one blowing it out. i also keep the feading lid cracked about an inch. temp maintains a constant at 79'

Just make sure you put it on a level surface and do not let any sharp rocks rest on the bottom glass.
The tank is vulnerable to cracking as other have said.

I just removed the feeding lid on my 24G DX and cut a piece of eggcrate that covers the front 1/3rd of the tank, resting on the inside lip of the tank's top edge. This easy mod reduces my temp swings by 1 degree/day.
IMHO, the JBJ nano's lids should have MUCH better ventilation. I can barely feel air coming out where the fans are, and the air that does come out is hardly warm.

I have a 12-gal JBJ Nano, I love it except for the heating. I leave the little feeding lid open but it doesn't help too much, haven't tried installing a small fan yet - but they definitely need to redesign their lid cooling fans, they are far too weak - -

I'm new to the "Community". Due to health reasons I must down grade my reef system. I purchased a "24G Nano Cube Deluxe" model #7051. Comes standard with two 60 x 60 mm cooling fans, (2) 36 watt combo bulbs and remote ballast, 290 GPH submersible pump. an I exspect the same cooling Problems? What do you or do you not suggest for a skimmer?

Welcome to TRT Kenny!
I have an older model 24gDX I've not noticed to much of a heat issue this year so far But we do keep the AC on and last summer I did use a fan and kept the feeding portion of the hood open

Kenny, what it really comes down to is what temp you are running in your house (thermostat). I dont have the luxury of running my AC during the day here in the Az or else my bill would go through the roof! i did have a problem w/ the heat problem in my tank only because of the temp of my house during the day, sometimes i will see the temp of my house soar above 87 and my tank has reached as high as 85... thats just scary. you will never know if you have a heat problem in your tank untill you try it out, i would suggest running your tank for a few days, if u have problems just lift the lid and leave it open untill you can fix your problem. i used www.nanocustoms.com (from that page click on nano-customs, thats where you will find the heat shield made for your tank) and their heatshield, it works much better than the stock heat shield/sink. and my temps have fallen about 2 degrees on average since.

yeah kenny, i know what you mean by having a hard time finding the heat shield, i couldnt find it for your 24g either. i did however find them for the 12g, but thats no much help, here is a link that has the heat shield included in a package... thats if you want to upgrade your fans and lighting... but its an idea,

hope this helps!

Bullet Proof Corals
Thank to all. Any new thoughts on small skimmers for 24 gallon nanos?
