Nano Cube Decision

Hey guys, what a cool site this is. I plan on setting up my first reef tank and was going to go with a nano cube. Nothing too complicated with this one polyps, and maybe a soft coral. I'm having a hard time deciding between the regular(1 power compact) or the deluxe (2). The fish store guy said that deluxe easily develops algae problems.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TRT. I would select the light fixture with 2 bulbs. Then you can mix bulbs to suit your taste.

There are alot of other mods between the two tanks as well. I recently purchased the jbj nano DX from a local guy here and it is truley an awsome tank. Worth the extra $50 for another light, better surface skimming, extra fan, and a better seal around the top of the tank.

Hope that helps

I also own the DX model..Super tank!....48w of power compact lighting open up a larger choice of softies for your tank. I even have a small torch coral in mine...Good Luck!

the light itself will not cause an algae problem. algae will have to come from nutrients and other items in the water. dont be afraid to add lights for a reef tank.

the more light the better! or at least... that's what i've read, been told and heard from successful aquariasts. Algae blooms feed off of higher nitrates. lower your nitrate concentration by use of a skimmer or frequent water changes and the algae will have no successful route to grow.

hot hot hot

I've read a few different posts on the internet with complaints about the heat build-up in the Nano Cubes. Do the fans and exhausting on the Dlx model solve this problem?
