Nano Cube Ceramic Rings

NANO CUBE CERAMIC RINGS:
I have been cycling my tank for about five weeks now. All my readings are at 0. Started cycling a five gallon and saw where someone said that they took out the Biowheel on theirs. They said that they wanted the Biofilter critters to establish in the rock not the wheel. Does the same apply to the rings and balls in the filter of the Nano? Just tring to find out what is best. Any opinion will help.

Yes. use the filter for water movement and the mechanicle filtration only. LR is much better for the bio-filtering of the tank. I suggest removing the rings and balls.

The bio-wheels contain beneifical bacteria that grows in high oxygentated areas that cycles any waste into nitrates. While fish can handle nitrates, corals can't, so your better off removing the bio-wheels and just use the filter cartridge, live rock/live sand, and perform frequent water changes.

I've read that you want to remove this bio-filtration (bio-balls/ceramic rings) gradually (1/8 of the items/week) if you have tank inhabitants, so the bacteria life on the LR will slowly compensate for the removal.
