Well, that may be it. You are changing a lot of water in a short amount of time. be careful with that - you cause a "mini-re-cycle" I cange about 15-20% once a month. You turning your tank over twice in a month at %50.

If you have hair algae, that is typically caused by nitrates. I feed my 4 fish 2 maybe 3 times a week - it may seem inhumane, but remember, fish don't eat everyday in the ocean. Theres not turkey baster feeding live brine to them. You fish may be eating the shrimp-BUT-it still has to "poop" And I can guarentee you this...if it has to wait a few days to eat, it will eat anything you feed it

I hope this helps, please don't think I am beating you up. I think its great you are even trying to fix this. Most reef posers would be giving up. I just want to help you because I've been through it all!!!! And if it weren't for threads and boards like this, I'd have been out months and thousands of dollars ago LOL

-Nick

I donno if they really have legs on them...they kind of look like plant cells you would see under a microscope with like the nucleus and stuff (sorry if i lost you, im a bio major and we look at crap like that alot so that is the best thing i can relate it to!) They don't really move or anything and i can scrape them off the glass but it takes a little bit. Hopefully they wont get up and start moving or anything...iwas thinking snail eggs? algae? idk. My snails wont eat it though so im not sure. Hey i have another question...the brown stuff is getting on my sand and clumping it up...how to i actually clean this stuff off. I allready tried to syphon some off my last water change but it is STUCK it isn't going anywhere! With all of these problems, everyone cant be to bad because my Xena just mulitplied yesterday and i found a new mushroom yesterday also.

P.S~ No Nick i don't think you are yelling at me at all. I tried another fourm before this and all everyone ever did was yell at me about having such a small tank. I REALLY needed help to because i had got another peice of LR and it, to my suprise, had bristle worms and they quickly took over my entire tank..the casualties ended up being a sifting star, a snail, and 2 clowns from the ammonia spike the other 2 dead guys caused. I had to end up cleaning everything out and starting over, leaving my corals that survived at the pet store i work at...it was horrible...now THAT made me wanna quit saltwater...

So there is another thread on here about the Red Sea test kits always giving high readings...that is all i have ever used. Could this maybe lying to be and saying that my levels are high seeing that we couldn't figure out a reason they were up? Are dip strips better??

have you started feeding anything else to your clown? I think I've heard that brine shrimp don't have hardly any nutritional value to them and are more like a candy for your fish. Are the ones you're using fortified with anything?
