mushrooms and high light?

i was wondering how much light a mushroom coral can handle. i would like to place it up high on a rock which would place it in somewhat strong lighting, 2x40 watt power compact in a 10 gallon tank. i think it would be about 10" below the light since i have the light with the attached legs so it raises it a bit
would the mushroom burn or shrivel? or will it be ok?

it/they shouldn't. i have a lot of mushrooms placed high in my nine gallon tank. i'm using the lights that came with the tank - not mh or vho. if you think that the lighting is too strong... watch them and they will let you know.

Under those conditions they will be ok. However if you were using halides, they would not do well in my opinion.

do you have them high up in the tank on the highest exposed rock?
if they naturally start to spread up then its different but adding a new mushroom rock to the highest light isnt the best thing for them as i found this out, they shrivled like a prune. they are very happy now on the bottom rocks and have opened beautifully.
if they eventually grow up towards the top rocks then it wont cause a problem since they adjust themselves, but like i said these were new and werent used to sudden high lights

I dont see how they would shrivel up. I have mine at the top of my tank and there about 3in away from my 2x65 and they seem fine, I think they like it actually. But i also got my mushrooms from a guy running 4 250 watt MH on his tank..

they were probably used to the light thats all i can say
but if you research sites and even forums you will read that mushrooms dont like high light and will shrivel.
your lights may need new bulbs or maybe the plexi glass cover needs cleaning

It really depends , they can even adust to MH's, It really depends on the type too. some like higher light, no hard rule here.
