Lighting for 12G nano
What kind of lighting would you guys recommend for a 12G nanocube. I don't need MH, but I would like a decent amount of light and don't want to spend a fortune. I already have too much $ in my 75G, so this is just kind of a toy for me.

You could go with some PCs. What kind of coral do you want to keep?

I was looking into some of the corallife, and Current USA fixtures. Since the ballast on my 12g nanocube is not working I figured I'd upgrade the lights for a little more than the cost of a new ballast.
I was planning on just keeping some zoos, frogspawn, brain, mushrooms. And maybe try an SPS from my 75G

I wouldn't recommend SPS with less than T5 lighting. If you use PC's i would go at least 96+ watts to even give the SPS a chance.

I have kept lots of SPS under PC lighting..and even had good growth! I would reccomend a 96 watt powerquad as you can't get the width to get good PC lighting otherwise (55 watt PC bulbs are 2' long...)
Anyway,
That's my opinion...although with the new 70W HQI setups available...I may never buy a PC again.

Is it a 12 Gallon Deluxe or 12 Gallon Regular, the deluxe comes with 2 24-watt 50/50 compact lights, 1 lunar and 1 daytime, I've heard these do fine for low light corals, softies, polyps, but hard corals would be hard to keep in such a low light setting. I think you should be fine if you use low light corals, and if your not doing a reef aquarium then you are definately OK to go.

Ah but my way is tons cheaper. 3 dollars for a 24 watt balast. Check his other post.
