just picked up a 12G nanocube for $10

I just got my 12 gallon nanocube and I need to fix a couple things on it. First off the bulb is brand new, but the ballast doesn't fire. How easy is it to remove the hood on this thing and just get a new more powerful light? Also would it be a good idea to replace all of the filter media?

I replaced my balast for 3 dollars. Not the most conventional idea but sounds like you like stuff cheap. Go to www.nano-reef.com and seach the DIY threads for the 3 dollar nano cube ballast replacement. Took me about 30 minutes top and by my light meter it works just as good as the stock one.

thanks for the link, look what I got working tonight

I have sand and live rock downstairs that was free, and some zoo frags I can get from my main display tank. The best part:

TOTAL COST TO GET UP AND RUNNING $18

Yea that link is really nice. Im currently doing that mod about 4 or 5 times and lighting a 15 or a 20 with it. Really cheap and best of all it works. Looks good so far.
