JBJ cracking ......is it an issue?

Hery all,

Got started on my buildoff project last weekend, and I think this is going to be fun.

In the maentime I have been looking at purchasing a nanocustoms 12 gallon to have sopmeting in the office....tired of looking at the 90 gallon freshwater tank all the time.

I was just about ready to order the other day........when suddenly I started to see a massive amount of threads elsewhere with regards to JBJ tanks cracking for no appareent reason. This raised my eyebrow a bit in concern as I would hate to shell out the bucks for livestock, only to have this kind of issue come to light when I am gone for the weekend.

Anyone out here have issues along these lines, and if so has the potential for the problem been taken care of my JBJ?

As far as i know or have read JBJ hasn't done anything about it. A high percentage of them arrive cracked or crack shortly thereafter. I would stay away.

My understanding is this was only an issue on the 24 Gallon models.

Man...this is quite the dilemma.

I really like Chris and have a huge appreciation for his work and cusotmer service. But if JBJ is having issues with the tanks..........that spooks me a bit. I have gone to several different forums, and in all instances it seems as if there are some inherany issues.

Yah i considered one right about when all of them started showing up cracked. I think this must stem from JBJ doing something cheaper in the construction recently because all of the older nanocubes are still doing fine. I'm just gonna make my own now.

We have 2 customers that have reported cracked JBJ nano, but I think they were broken in shipping. R2

There is a guy on ebay who makes them. They look sweet. Filter compartments in the back, nice hood with better lights than the nano cubes. Sorry i don't have a link handy.

These are the two I have found so far.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NANO-AQUARIUM-AC...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:B:AAQ:US:1

Both look pretty decent, but in order to get the light I want I will need to do some serious retro fitting. I may go with the first one and use a 150 watt mh auqua light clip on. Thats also the light I am going to use on my nano for the contest.

Wouldnt it be great is someone could build an acrylic tank that would match up with the basic JBJ specs...then people like Chrs over at nano customes could still use the hoods they make and retro fit but with less hassle...............a little food for thought in any event............

I know that Andy at Myreef is planning on introducing a line of acrylic nano tanks but I'm not sure what the timeline is.
