Jan Nano SIG meeting.

Just curious if we still are interested in haveing any more Nano SIG meetings. All three meetings so far have been a big success but the interest in them seems to be fading.

IF everyone is still interested the meeting would be Sat Jan 24th at 12:00.

I have an idea for location and what to do at the meeting but figured I would get everyone elses ideas. Maybe we can come up with something better because what I was thinking about could always be saved for some month in the future.

So what do you all think.

1) Do we have a meeting?
2) Any ideas for a location?
3) Any ideas for an activity?

Definatly interested. I talked to Bob about that especially with the awesome success of all of the meetings last year. (Still gots my lights too)
One idea I had was to making powerhead tubing for directional flow. Justin used egg crate and mounted tubing about the same thickness as one slat on the eggcrate. He dropped it on the back of a nano tank with a powerhead to provide 3 places with an outflow. He used a maxijet 900 (160 gph) in a 10 gal tank and three outlets.
His only tools was a pair of scisors, 1/4 inch tubing from Home depot (clear), and I think Aquarium sealant or some other tubal glue. Almost forgot, he cut out all of the extra slats from the eggrate and only had the exact pieces behind the tubing so you don't see a grid.

The other idea may be a reef club idea was building a surge system with an old Kent's saltwater bucket. Neat concept. Really really easy to build. Petland in Duluth made one. Just used a pump to fill up a bucket, when the bucket was full enough to start a siphon, it dumped the bucket back in the tank through a one inch pvc pipe. Probably less than 10 bucks to make not including a pump. The pump will determine how often it will dump out.

Yea, Ray, the surge thing at Petland was very very simple but very cool. The only problem I saw is that you have to have it above the tank so you cant really hide it too easily.

OK Ray we'll see how much other response we get. If it's going to be just me and you I'll come over your house and you can feed me while we talk trash about everyone else (oops I mean while we talk reef)

I'm in.

A surge bucket on a nano???? I'll have to put containers on the floor to catch the water that comes out the other side. Actually with a smaller container and smaller tubing it would be pretty cool. I would like to build one for the 120 but trying to hide a 6 gal bucket in the living room wouldn't be practical.

Yeah but you could use, say a 2 gal bucket from the dollar store (i happen to have one) a 100 gph powerhead/pump with 11/4 inch flexible tubing and viola....wee little surge device. It seems like it would be a good place to dose as well.

Count me in! Sorry... been out of action for about a week or so with the flu.

Sat. the 24th sounds great. I would also be interested in working on an auto top-off system. Maybe we could make a wave surge / auto top-off combo?

No...seriously I am getting weary of dumping water in my tank everyday. An auto top-off system would be cool!

Yes I actually have a complete auto-topoff system in mind for Nano's that I was going to do as hands-on workshop similar to the Moonlighting. Of course at this late time we won't be able to get it together.

Maybe we could meet and have some lunch somewhere and make plans for an auto-topoff and/or surge hands-on workshop.

Could we do this over near CBA so we can do a quick group purchase/frag secession if everyone wants to.

Or would somewhere else be better ? Let me know ASAP and I'll send out a quick e-mail.

How about Fuddruckers on Windy Hill? It is only about 4 or so miles from CBA and I could definitely go for a burger!

Marietta, GA

So far we got:
Charles
Me (Sammy)
Ray
Rick

Who else can we get in on this?

Maybe CBA will loan us their coffee shop/coral farm section for the meeting. They already have any power tools we may need.

OK we seem to have a plan.

Sat Jan 24th, 12:00 noon at

Fuddruckers
3000 Windy Hill Rd SE
Marietta, GA

I will call Bobby and let him know we will be comming by sometime in the afternoon. From speaking with him in the past CBA is always willing so this should not be a problem. The other nice thing is that CBA has a really nice Nano up at the register for everyone to gaulk at (at least I do every time I'm in their store).

I will print out any info I have about a topoff system for a Nano . Everyone else needs to bring any and all ideas they have also print out anything you got. We will get a plan of action together so we can have another workshop at the March meeting.

I'm glad to see there are still a few of us willing to have these meetings. Also if anybody who is reading this is still interested I have another 2 or 3 Moonlighting setups.

I'll send out an e-mail to the entire group tomorrow evening.

Now were cooking!

I have been looking at the auto top-off issue for a while and I like the air-driven systems. I will bring the info I have and see what you guys think.

I also would like to see the idea for the surge device.

Looking forward to Saturday!

Man, I would love to go! It has been a while since I have been to an ARC meeting. But school up in Columbia is killing me and I cant afford to leave for a weekend

But, my nano is doing wonderful. I will try and post some pictures soon!

I might be able to stop by as well but I'm not really sure what my schedule looks like right now.

As far as auto top off systems go I may have some input on an air powered system, here is a thread about mine on nano-reef.com.
