heat issues in 12dx nanocube

well i jsut set up a nanocube about 2-3weeks ago. i got it in a trade for my old protein skimmer. i modded the stock pump for a mj900 and thats all thats been modified. i have 25lbs sand, and 10lbs lr in there. the temp doesnt ever seem to go below 81, but with the lights on it climbs to 85 easily in 6-7 hours. is this a common problem or do i have a faulty unit? both hood fans work, just dont work very well obviously. besides leaving the lid open and blowing a fan in there what is a good way to combat heat in a nanocube? any simple mods? i was thinking about switching the fans so that they blow out rather than in?

my other concern is oxygen, with the lid closed is there enough oxygen at the waters surface to adequately oxygenate the water?

I have the same issue with my 24gallon, i have installed a chiller and it seams to like to get up to 85. one thing i did do this weekend is remove the first part of the lid that you open up to feed in hope that it would allow some of the hot air to escape, and let the A/C get to the surface of the water. I have a pci CL-85 chiller, that has not seamed to be doing its job, but i did a few things this weekend that i hope will fix these issues. My tanks natural running temp with the lights off is about 82. hope this helps

Same issue here. Mine has been running like this since I got it in March.

What are your ambient temps? Typically with AC on keeping the temps of my house down I do not need to put a fan on my nano. If it is hot and I don't have the ac on there is no fan blowing directly on the tank it heats up fast. Heat is the biggest drawback with a nano.

I just crack the lid a bit, and I have a small box fan that I bought at Walgreens for $15 bucks that blows on the tank itself and it is positioned maybe 3 feet away from it... This keeps my temperatures at a steady 79/80... my A/C stays around 77 degrees in the house but the room the tank is in has a tendency to stay around 82 to 85 degrees because of bad circulation... I live in hot Florida and this solved my heat issue with no problem and I tried just about everything short of buying a chiller... this was for my BioCube 14g
