Follow up Questions on 12 Gallon Tank

Ok I would like to ask a few more questions please. I am the one with the Tang in the 12 gallon. I know it was ideal to relocate him, but I did not have an option to do that, so I had to make the best of it. All was going pretty well, he did develop a cotton like growth on his left side, but he was eating and active. I did a water change on Saturday because the tank needed it and all seemed well except it was a bit cloudy. On Sunday morning I added some Pimafix to try to take care of the growth. On Sunday night he developed lots of little white spots, I don't think it was ich, and started breathing very rapidly. I gave him a freshwater dip and it seemed to help a little bit. He expired though some time during the night I woke to find my shrimp eating him. So here are my questions, Did the water change cause this? And I did test my water and the Nitrates were a bit high, so on Sunday evening I did another small water change to reduce the nitrate which helped a bit. Also why are my inverts doing so well and not the fish?

I do not think it was the WC that cause him to pass on. I would have to say it was the 12gal. But you did not know that they needed a big tank. The Nitrates did not help but I do not think it would have killed him. Tangs love to swim. The white spots could be caused by stress of the 12gal. Inverts will do good in any size tank. Fish need the right tank to do good. Do you have any more fish in the tank? If no we can try to find some fish that would do good in a 12gal. What is Pimafix? Very sorry to hear about the tang.

I currently have no other fish in the tank. I was going to let it cycle another week or two and do another WC before adding any more fish. Pimfix was supposed to cure fungal infrections. It said it was all natural so as not to hurt the inverts and live rock. It smelled horrible and made the entire tank smell. I have had some people suggest gobbies and maybe a clown so far.

Check out a Yellow clown goby, they are tiny and cute and stay small! Just make sure it's eating at the LFS before you bring it home.

Yes a goby and some clowns would work very well for that tank. But give it time to cycle then you can add the fish.
