Hi all,

I wanted to get started on setting up a 20 gal. reef tank. I would like to grow coral's in this tank. I'm pretty new to all of this and I would like to know what I need to get started. Also where is the best place to purchase all of the items needed. Plus what brands are best to buy. Basically I'm lookin for a checklist here of what is needed to get off the ground. I appreciate all of your advice.

Thanks

for dry goods order from www.foryourfish.com they have awesome prices.. never buy dry goods in a fish store, they are usually about double what you can get stuff for online. What types of corals are you wanting to keep?

I would problem do some polyps, mushroom corals and soft corals. Not sure on what type of lighting I need, and filtration. Do I need a protein skimmer and a filter? Also to start off should I fill the tank with live sand and live rock, and let it cycle then add corals.

Yeah, you definitely need to let your tank cycle before you add fish/corals/etc. So, first put in your live sand, live rock...you may want to let the tank run for a couple of weeks. Then test your nitrate, etc levels and make sure everything is stable.
