Filter Media for Aquapod

It seems there's a billion threads on this but I can't really get a clear answer. Im' setting up a softies reef in my Aquapod. I know certainly not to leave the Bio-Balls in. I'm assuming that the white cylandar things that came in a net are the carbon, and I've heard that it's good to leave that in to make for crystal clear water? If I wash the sponge every other week or so is that acceptable as well?

Do you have any pics of what you are talking about for the carbon? I am not familiar with the aquapods but with some pics i might be able to help you.

Thanks,
tim

I think the white cylender things your are talking about are something for bacteria to grow, there are things that come in the Aquaclear filters that are for bacteria and match your descripition.

They are called ceramic media. I was told to leave them but not sure if it was correct. I also realized there was no active carbon with my pod going to get some tho. I was also told to add a purigen bag. I hope someone will chime in and let us know about the ceramic media.

the ceramic media works on the same basis as the bio-balls, they will both help increase your Nitrates. If you are going to keep the sponge, you should clean it, at MINIMUM, once a week. any longer and you will have increased nitrates there too. I only kept a small piece of the sponge in my AP and clean it every three days, I also use filterfloss and change it every 3 days. Good luck, HTH

Yup ditch the packaged stuff and cut the 9 1/2' sponge in to about 3 peices.
In the other chambers add some live rock maybe some purgen.
I am going to have a cheato fuge back there as well in mine.
