Does this consttute a Nano?

I have a one gallon hex that I aquired from my brother back in August. All total it has been running successfully for 2 years. It was his refugium at his apartment. Over the last four months we have expanded it a little.
It currently contains:
One R. Florida(2")
One small purple with green stripes mushroom(1")
one lb. LR
healthy mix of calerpa- prolifera and grape
various sponges on live rock
several tiny starfish(Coral hitchhikers)
pods from tiny to 1/4"
bristleworms, with one that has to be 4"(I swear!)

and my baby.... a lettuce nudibranch who also hitched in on some plating SPS

The parameters are... 1.022, 76F, other than that who knows
It is completely covered and has an 8W 6700K pc light over it, on a 12 hour on/off cycle
I add topoff water about once a week. No filtration, airstone only.
I have only had to clean the glass once since I have had it(2 months)
I acredit the mass of calerpa to nutrient regulation

Anyway, is this enough to qualify me for membership in the Nano
SIG? I sure hope so, and I would love to learn more from everyone. I have some really pretty orange zoos in my main refugium that I am thinking of transferring over, just to observe growth rate in the different environments.

If you made it this far thanks for your time!
David

Our Nano special interest group ,SIG, is for ANYONE with a 29g or less. I think a 1g might even win you the smallest nano award!! We would love to see pics of it. Im sure lots of folks will have questions for you on how you're able to keep it stable. Thats amazing! I am truly impressed!!!!

Welcome aboard!

Hi David we don't discriminate as long as it's small and 1 gal is definatly small.

Maybe you could make it up to the Nov. Meeting. All the Nano SIG meetings alternate between Sat and Sun at 12:00 noon and are ususally the 4th weekend every other month. We definatly have a great time. We also try and field trip to the closest LFS sponsor for a group purchase.

If you could PM or e-mail me your First and Last Name, TRT alias, and a vail e-mail adress --- I will put you on the Nano SIG e-mail list.

Attempted Bristleworm

The bristle worms hide in the rock with the mushroom on it. It is very porous and makes for a good breeding ground!

My brother laughed when I told him I had posted it. He said he felt that the secret to stability has been the high ratio of macro that has always grown in it. I do not have a tang right now, but my FW mollies go crazy for it!
Also the R.Florida was rescued when my brother moved. I was pouring out his old tank water that he had left, and it was at the bottom of the trashcan. He wondered why he could not find it!
I checked the water tonight and it was 1.025. I add about 4oz of water every two days. Believe it or not, the 8oz cup of saltwater I changed out with some new IO was the first real water change it has had in two years.

Thanks for the interest,
David

cool little tank, but for any serious long term success you're going to need mh and a calc reactor...

That is why I brought it before the board, as kind of an open experiment. Long term success to me does not equate to monstrous growth, just health. All I can do is report my findings and my victories and setbacks. I am more concerned about the Ca issue than the lighting long term. I do feed the ricordia a couple of formula one pellets each week and it enjoys those.

Like I said, I am not trying to have a novelty but to put a product out there that I have had success with and see who can improve on it. Would not we all love to take a little piece of the reef to work with us, or to have something to enjoy while drifting off to sleep at night.

This is just something that has worked well and hopefully will continue to do so. I appreciate any comments or suggestions, and am glad there is an interest in what I feel is important to me!

Thanks for your time,
David
