Coral for the Nano Cube

I would like some advice on coral for a 12 gallon Nano Cube. I am starting my first reef tank and would like to know what coral would do good in it. I have about 12 pumping xenias and would like to add more soft coral. Is it advisable to put hard corals in also? Is it to much trouble? What should I stay away from? (I also have three snails and a small blue hermet crab in the tank.)

Thanks for any suggestions

Hello

You may want to stay away from hard corals in a nano due to thier lighting needs. Check out the sponsors or liveaquaria to get some ideas. There are many "nano packs" available that will give you a nice mixture....HTH

It came with a 10,000k blue/white combo light. By the way, when should this bulb be replaced? Once a year?

All I know is that the info on the paper that came with it just says it is 50/50 lamp for marine tanks or a 6500 for freshwater tanks. It is a 24 watt lamp and provides 3x the performance of traditional fluorescent bulbs. So, definetly not a VHO. The writing on the bulb says the same thing as the paper (24Watt/ 110 Volts.)

It's a pc bulb, for your tank it will be fine for what corals have been suggested. Yes, once a year would be a good replacement schedule.

At least once a year! I plan on changing mine every 6 months to keep their intensity, but that is me. I think that they could go a year but no more then that.

PC's lose intensity quite slowly, @ 8 months intensity is a quarter of original, the red shift is the main reason to replace your lights.

I thought I had read in an old FAMA mag. that the regular fluorescent bulbs should be changed every year, but I wasn't too sure about the new bulbs that are out now. Thank you both for your "illuminating answers." (Sorry for the pun, I just had to.)

That is enlightening information. It really highlights important information. It really brightens my day. It really lightens the load. It really shines through.

Alright that is enough.
