can buffers stain the water?

ok something really weird is happening, theres this brown surface haze in the tank, the water is crystal clear its just the surface that has this haze (surface scum)
the thing that makes it odd is that anything that touches this haze stains brownish almost like iodine would. which is making me point my finger at kents nano ion buffer a+b.
i think this stuff if great, my corals have doubled in size in less than 3 weeks. but could i have overdosed this stuff? i really should have gotten that eye dropper lol but i always fortget when im at the store, and trying to dose this big bottle is not easy.
ill do a partial water change later which will make 2 water changes this week something im a little bit afraid of. ill try just changing 5%
oh yes forgot to mention the smell, the tank smells like a dentists office lol, oh very clean but very medical
anyone else ever had this problem? is it even a problem? my corals dont seem to say so but that odd staining film just says its a no no in the nano lol

Can you take a pic of it?

Do you stir up your water manually; i.e. with a turkey baster? Or do you rely on a powerhead?
Do you use carbon?

The childrens-medicine-dosing-syringe works great. I really suggest getting one. An eyedroper doesn't really measure the amount that you need to add to the tank but, you could use one.

no i dont stir the water, do i have to? i didnt know that
i just rely on the power head and the filter for flow, which the tank is pretty windy. the surface has on rippled clear area but the rest is icky. i did a water change last night and its clear now. im gonna see how long it can stay clear, it could be the food, i use prime reef and the flakes are a bright reddish color, could it be the food? maybe its food coloring?
i use carbon and chemi pure in the filter. the water beneath the surface is crystal clear its just the surface scum its so weird lol
i use marine snow but that pretty much has no color. i wont add the ion buffer this week and see if it comes back, but now im starting to think its the food
do i have to feed these 2 clowns everyday? they beg so much i feel bad for them

you don't have to stir the water... sorry. i use a turkey baster to stir up the waste on the live rocks and on my gravel/sand bed.

it sounds like you are feeding too much. cut back to: a very very small pinch of the flake food to every third day or once a week. you really only need to feed once a week. the fish and other critters will always come to the front of the tank when you approach it; they think that you are going to feed them.

i asked about the carbon because you said that you have a smell. usually carbon will get rid of the smell.

i too was feeding everything in my tank too much. i had high nitrates and high phosphates. i had to do water changes every other day, in addition to going to once a week feeding.
