Biocube Tips , trials and errors.
Ok , i just finish my buzz on improoving the Oceanic biocube.
I did all kinds of stuff to it, Here are some with results
-Made a Refugium in second chamber- Not worth it
-changed the return pump to a maxi-jet 900- works better flow
-put a Phoslock bag in chamber one- works great
-removed the sponge from chamber 3- not good
-Change the lighting to higher K - not worth the effort
-removed the dividing panels at the bottom of chamber 1 -2 - Good ideal
-removed bioballs from second chamber- great
-Added a larger protein skimmer in chamber 2- Much much better.
-Added more actinic lamps in cannopy- ya i guess
-removed elbow between pump and return nozel in chamber 3- more flow
-remove upgrades to lighting system- Better(don't need a fan anymore)
-Adding a powerhead in the tank- great more flow
-Removed the dripp tray in chamber 2- better access
-Adding lighting for the fuge chamber 2- not worth it, looked like SH...
-Scrapping back to give more light to fuge-BAD ideal, looks bad!
-Added Auto top off- NOT NOT NOT worth it IT IT IT save your money.
Thats about it. Will have pics soon.

Good idea on the list. Maybe I should make one for my Eclipse 12G tank.

Here it is
If you remove the elbow and use tubing instead you increase your flow

Some Cheato and critters, no sand.

A new light for the back, scrub the paint off for that. IMO NOT worth the time and effort, Use a bigger Skimmer.
Like this one SR3 , Petsolution.com
For those who want to do the fuge anyway, thats the end result look.

Very nice looking corals. How did you manage to remove the elbow and connect the hosing so there was not any leaks between the pump and return?

I used a tubing of 2 different size, one that connects to the return( larger one) and the smaller size went inside that larger piece. Connected the smaller size that fits to the pump. Check this thread http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...tml#post569340 There's a picture of it, you'll see the lighter gree tubing going to the return and the darker , smaller line to the pump below.

Thanks for the link, I understand what you did, I will go to Home Depot this week. I love to maximize that efficiency.

Just set up my 29. I removed the bio-balls and the water is just flowing from chamber 1 to 2 like a water fall. Water level is in the middle between minimum and maximum. What can I do to fix this?

Thats what its suppose to be. usually you have bioballs that are half in and out of the water. They break the water into droplets and created a biological filter( bacteria culture) that transform your amonia and nitrites into nitrates. The reason to remove the balls is to either put the SR3 oceanic skimmer in the second chamber( it fits perfectly) or to create a refugium. This with a light and some algae , Cheato usually. You have to replace your bioball by something otherwise leave them there. So by what where you going to replace the bioballs with.

Thanks, I guess I'm going to get the skimmer to put in chamber 2. My only concern was the noise level that the mini waterfall was creating.
