Question

Anemone Choice

Okay guys,

I have a 20 gallon nano-reef with not much in it at the moment. I am slowly building it up. I would love to get a clown fish with an anomone for him to host with, but I since my tank is only a 20 gallon, I did not want an anemone that would attack corals or grow to a huge size overtime. I know, there may be no "perfect" choice, but doe anyone have any recommendations for an anemone? It does not seem right to keep a clown by himself, but then again I would love to have corals too. I have seen some of my friend anumones grow HUGE!!!! What do you guys think?

If the anemone lives it will grow. It will also wander, and may eventually settle down in a spot where you are unable to see him. Clownfish do not need an anemone. Please research thoroughly before getting an anemone. Here's an article to start with:

I would also recommend you purchase and read Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfishes".

Thats correct, clowns do not need an anenome, and additionally they have been known to host in leathers, powerheads, etc, etc.

But like me - you may like anenomes - and the fact that your clown MAY host in it is a great bonus.
There is nothing to say that your clown actually will host in it though.

Whats the kelvin rating on your PC? (ie 10000k etc).

A plate anenome is a great choice, easy to feed and dont wander about, also they dont grow outragously quick either...

Your water quality must be good too...

Yeah you should be fine for almost any corals...
Try a plate if you can find a smallish one that you like the look of (make sure it looks healthy).

They wont overtake your tank like some will.

I would probably suggest a bubble. Most clowns will go into a bubble. The long tentacle anemones grow fairly large and don’t always feed. I wouldn’t get a carpet because they at times like to feed on your fish. I would definitely stay away from sebae anemones. They die easily and move around too much. I would say get a rose, but roses like strong lighting.
