Algae

I have a 12g nano that has been up about a month or so. I started out with some brown algae and then some pink shortly after. Now I have a bright green algae coming on pretty strong.
Are these good or bad? Any enlightenment would be great. Thanks.

J

It's part of the cycling of the tank.

If it keeps increasing... you can take the lr out, scrub it with a toothbrush in a pail of different sw, rinse it off with fresh sw, and put it back in your tank. I had to do this with some lr in my nano a few months ago, due to overfeeding and getting high nitrates and phosphates.

I agree with Loverotties, it's part of the cycling process. You should wait for a while before doing anything too drastic. How often are you doing water changes? And, how much water are you changing?

Keep us posted.

I use water from the LFS. I made the mistake of listening to the owner at the store and added a fish too early, which is now gone. I got my own test kit, ph meter and refractometer.
PH--------8.1
Nitrites----0
Ammonia--0
Nitrates---20
SP--------1.024
Water changes have been done once a week, 10%. I just changed out the coal with chempure(?) about 5 days ago.
2 Nassirus snails
2 turbo snails
2 other snails(small purple shell?)
1 spider crab
Do I need more clean up crew? Thanks.

Do you know what the TDS is on the water you get and is it RO/DI? The chempure is good I do not use it. I just run carbon. They say you can have it in for 4-5mths but put new stuff in every 1-2 weeks. I think you are ok on clean up crew. The tank is still some what new so give it time and try to get your nitrates down to 0ppm. Stay with the 10% weekly WC. Any more Qs just ask.

Thanks for the responses. Water is R/O, by the way. I'm just going to kick back and wait it out. Thanks.

exactly just wait it out
it goes away
decrease the hours the lighting is on and it will go away quicker, 5 hours a day is fine while its cycling, at least this is what i do
