A few questions

Ok I got my LR and water but I have a few questions.

1. My LFS told me that since I am using the surface skimmer that came with the aquapod that I dont need or want live sand. They said it will build up lots of nitrates and become a problem later down the road.

2. I filled my tank today and I was told by the LFS to fill to the max fill line. Well it doesnt seem to be skimming at all, the bio balls arent really moving and the water really isnt skimming off the top but I do have good outflow from my pump. I made a picture to show where my water line is. Any idea where it should be?

3. The aquapod came with 3 bags 2 of them had white tubular filteration things and 1 bag of carbon looking stuff. I have no real idea where they go. I know the sponge goes in the first chamber and the bio balls go in the 3rd chamber since they were in there already and the last chamber is where the pump is at. Please help me out. Pic included.

Thats it for thanks for the help.

1. I would say you can have sand if you want. For the most part it should not give you high nitrates. If you have the right number of fish and the right LBS of live rock. You should be ok. Would you want a DSB or SSB? 2. The skimmer might take some time to get going. So give it some time. Try to drop the water some and see what that does. The pics did not show up. If you are going to put live rock in you might want to think about pulling the bio-balls out. They could give you high nitrates over time. 3. If you have live rock you should not need the stuff in the bags. You can run carbon if you want to. The LR (live rock) will do most of the filteration for you. Any more Q's just ask love to help.

What size tank?
I agree on the sand. You can have it if you want it.
How much live rock do you plan on having in it?
What type of lights are you using?
I just use carbon in my nine gallon. I would get rid of the bio-balls.
An additional power head will help too.
