24 Gal Aquapod
I just got a brand new aquapod!!!!
This seems like a knowledgable bunch and I was just wondering what you folks think would be best to start this bugger out with... right now i have live sand (arogonite) no liverock yet (thinking about getting fiji... what should be my first purchase besides damsels?
I have not put ANYTHING in the tank yet... i have yet to unwrap the sand

Definately get the rock. Let the tank sit for a month or two until the cycle is over. I would avoid damsels unless that is all you ever want to keep. I love watchmen gobies. Very interesting little guys.

When I used live sand and live rock to start my nanocube, I really did not have to cycle the tank. It was pretty much cycled. I put in a clean up crew right away and then started with a hearty coral at a time. I would agree to wait on the fish though. It worked out pretty good but maybe I was just lucky?

24 Gallon Aquapod
Thanks for the advice... any more advice is welcomed as i am brand new to the SW world... I have a question though... the guy i bought the aquarium from said it's good to get fish in there to feed the liverock and sand... which makes sense... I've actually heard that quite a bit...
anyone got anything for me?

lr and sand that is cured can lessen possibily avoid cycle. Each setup is different. Rock that is uncured believe me it will cycle(caused by die off of organism ending up in the water column). When cycle occurs the ammonia and nitrate can burn the fish gills and you don't want to do that.

Just what kinda shrimp are these that would have come in off the rock? The Aquapod is nice starter tank and I love mine.

And the cycle begins! Generally a tank is empty of livestock so you just let it take its course. If you are wanting to save your shrimp you have 2 options: see if lfs will babysit, or do frequent waterchanges. Unfortunatly the waterchanges will increase the length of the cycle period but could save your shrimp. With one of my tanks I had algae but the rock, sand, and some of the water was from well established tank so there were no traces of ammonia, nitrate, or nitrite so I put in a couple of turbos and they wiped the algae out in no time.
