14 Gallon BiuoCube?

I'm looking at getting a 14 gallon BioCube after having had a 125 gal Reef setup several years ago.

One questions that I have is are the tanks quite.
My wife always complained about the noise that the 125 made, but it had 3 inch pumps running.

How are these tanks on sound?

Also, I've been reading the forums and am getting a bit confused, there is a lot of conflicting "opinions".

Things like using rubble rock in the chambers or not?

Where can I find some good solid information to follow?

Thanks;

Steve

My 29 is pretty silent. I would leave the back chambers pretty empty except for the return pump unless you want to make the second chamber into a fuge. Take out the bioballs in the second chamber and fill it up to about an inch below the grate and it will be pretty silent.

Extend the pipe to go down into the waterIs the best thing to do.Putting rock makes it hard to clean it well.

I have live rock rubble in the Bio balls camber and it is doing very well.. Only thing that will make noise is the fans in the hood. after a year one of my fans stop working and the other has become very loud. besides that I love the tank and I have the 14 bio cube.
I need to open the light hood and see if I can take the fans out and see if they need to be cleaned. I think salt may of got in there and jammed the fans to make them to become so loud

We've had all kinds of "all-in-one" cubes in this house...from a 12G JBJ up to a "high-end" Cardiff...I've run Oceanic, JBJ & Current cubes and unless you're looking at the HQI setups (or the brand new LED's that are coming out soon) they are all about the same IMO...as for noise the only noise I've ever had on any of them is from the fans...otherwise they are near dead silent...I gave up on anything in the back except return pump and heater...anything else just gets "junk" built up in it and will cause problems down the road...I do run some chemical media back there from time to time...otherwise good quality live rock and water changes does the trick.

Couldn't you use gravel in place of lr in the biobal area? Just use the gravel vacuum toclean it?

i have a 14 gal biocube......it is silent, the fans run real low (i added an aftermarket 3rd lighting row and new fans) the tank itself is silent. i run hollowed coral rings in my filter slot and it is sooo quiet.

Thanks I just got mine this past weekend and haven't set it up yet.

What 3rd party light are you using.

I'm just looking for suggestions.

Thanks again;

Steve

if you want me to send over some pics i can just let me know....go to nanocustoms.com and i ordered the 3rd row of 24-watt lighting. i heard bad new about the metal halide in that tank. whatever you do just dont order their nano skimmer i should have took the advice i heard from a friend but i didnt and got it and it put sooo many microbubbles in the water i couldnt see anything...let me know if you have any other questions. they are awesome tanks and easy to take care of just make sure you keep up on water changes!
