Question

12G Aquapod newbie to nano

Ok, I have a 12G Aquapod cycling right now, it's about halfway through.
I am reading about removing the filter media though?
Why is this and what do you recommend leaving in there?
I also hear of people doing mods to these. What types of things are you guys doing and what are the reasons.
I have a 150G reef setup that is newly set up and that I pretty much know about, the nano thing is all new to me though.
How about upgrading the pump and filter set up?
Is is possible to skim on these tanks with the lid closed and looking stock?

Thanks!

Look through the nano buildoff areas and see if you can find any threads where they used a 12G Aquapod. My 12 is an Eclipse so it is different but there is very very little of it left from what I started with. Different filtration, different lights, the only thing I have left from the original kit that will stay with it long term is the tank itself.

As for the mods/upgrades, it depends on what you want to do with the tank and what you don't think will work that came with it.

Welcome to TRT! There are a lot of choices for mods/upgrades. You probably want to take all the filter media out to start with. There's not a lot in the way of skimmers, but w/ regular water changes you probably don't need one. As Randy said, do some searches and ask more Q's. - You can also post in the general reef discussion section to get more responses.

Just realized it. Welcome to TRT! And yes, ask lots of questions.

Whether it is your nano or the large one, the very first question is:

What do you want to keep in the tank? Fish, corals, etc.? The answer to that question will kind of dictate what you need to do with filtration, light, etc. as different corals need different light/flow in the tank.
