12 Gallon Reef?!?

Hi all,

I am new here and I just joied purely because I could not find anywhere else to talk about having a small reef tank.

I am looking at starting a new tank that holds 12 Gallons. What I am not sure about is what fish and corals I can put in it.
Currently I am thinking that I might go with a pair of Percula Clowns, a couple of Cleaner shrimps and a pair of blue cheek gobies. Can I add sexy shrimpsto this?
As for corals I have no idea what to put in.

The tank will have 2x 15Watt bulbs and will be filtered by a Fluval 204. I can add some extra powerheads for additional movement if need be.

Other than what is stated above I am open to suggestions.

Please advise.

Thanks

Mark (aka Say_Cheese)

I would think 4 fish is a bit much for 12 gals. I might cut that in 1/2.

As for lighting --- 2 x 15 will be the bare minimum and you should stick to the less light demanding corals, Shrooms, polyps, most softies etc..... stay away from clams and SPS corals.

I originally had no intention of keeping corals so anything would be good. I don't want to keep anything like clams.

Cheers for the advice

Still to many fish for such a small tank....
I would go with a pair of clowns or one clown and one goby.

I have 12g nano, and have 2 OC clowns. I would say that is perfect, no more fish. I only have 24w and am keeping xenia, zoas, a Fox coral (low light LPS without sweepers) and recently a frogspawn (at the VERY top, under the most intense of the 24w). Everything is doing fantastic, looks much happier than it did at the LFS (has double or tripled in size since it's fully opened). Now my tank is stuffed, no more for me till I upgrade, lol

4 fish is fine provided you keep the water changes up to it.
If you think you are going to get lazy in future then stock lightly, but if you are prepared to keep your husbandry up to scratch then you'll be fine.
What kind of lights are they? ie Power Compacts?

I will keep the water changes up to scratch with no problems. 10% once a week. Or more if the Nitrate levels start to show too high.
They are 2x15W Fluroescent lights. One Hagen Power-Glo and One Hagen Marine-Glo.
