12 gallon filter ?

On the 12 gallon nano cube there is the sponge material that collects gunk in the first back chamber. does that sponge need to be replaced ever or do you just rinse it in clean water during cleaning? I can't imagine that material would last without causeing water quality problems eventually

You are better off with no sponge at all---It will just cause you headaches in the future----

Thats the first I have heard any one say you should take that material out. Why do you say it should be removed? Thanks

I have kept both sponges in my 24 1 water change my husband rinses the top sponge and next he rinses both. probably not the right way to do it but it's been working for us.

I added a maxi-jet 900 to my third chamber and I had to remove all but one of the sponges in the first because the water wasn't filtering through fast enough to keep up with the pump and it would jet bubbles into the tank. so far I've just been rinsing it off, too, but if I pull it out a lot of gunk will drip in the water before I get it out
