10 Gallon Nano

I am going to start a 10 gallon nano tank pretty soon and here is what the plan and stocking is so far:

10 Gallon Aqueon Aquarium
10 pounds Australian Gold Sand
10 pounds of LR
Fluval Plus 1 Filter
Marineland 50W Stealth Heater
20" PC light fixture
2 Purple Firefish
4 Emerald Crabs
1 Fire Shrimp
10 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
GSP
Yellow Polyps
Blue Mushrooms
Red Mushrooms
Green Mushrooms
Assorted Zoanthids
Kenya Tree Coral

I'd like to have an open top tank. Would the Fluval filter provide enough filtration for the tank or should I get something else? I also plan on doing weekly 1 gallon water changes with every forth week being 2 gallons. Does anyone see any problems with this set up?

Is the fluval a cannister filter? If you run it empty it may be enough flow although maxi jets are cheap if you need more

No. It's a little internal filter with a space for a water polising pad or a carbon pad.

I think you would be better off with a HOB filter - running it empty for flow

firefish think they can fly... which, in an open top tank, isn't conducive to their health

I'll probably put some eggcrate over the top then. I have 3 Firefish in my 55 and haven't had a problem with them jumping so I don't know.

eggcrate is designed to difusse light. But, your stocking plans don't include any high-light animals. I think you should be ok with the eggcrate until you decide to put in some sps .

Is that nano made by aquamedic?

I don't think I'll put any SPS in the tank. It'll be mostly softies with maybe a LPS or something. And no, it's just a standard 10 gallon glass aquarium. It's made by the same company as AGA, it's just under a different name.

Oh, there will definitely be one. Keep your eyes open. I plan on buying the tank tomorrow or sometime soon.

If the fish can fit inside the hole of the eggcrate then trust me it's not going to stop it from flying through it.
Trust me I know......
My cousin's tanks has eggcrate and he thought it could stop his gobys but they flew right threw and went carpet surfing tons of times.

I've seen our firefish bat his head against the lid a few times. It hasn't made it out of the tank yet. It seems to have settled a bit, but I still don't trust that it won't make it out one of these days.

Just live rock and waterchanges

I put carbon in my HOB filter sometimes to polish the water on my 5.5
