1 Month Progress 14 Gallon Bio Cube Pics!
Here's pictures I took a few days ago of my 14 gallon Bio. A couple quick questions. I know I'm not supposed to clean the BioBalls in the back filter. Am I supposed to clean the filter that the water 1st runs through? Also, if you look at the last picture I posted, does anyone know what that pinkish centepede thing is? I didn't buy it and I think it came growing inside one of the live rocks I put in. Should I be worried about it? All my levels are perfect so its not effecting anything right now. I just don't want it to bother anything living in there. Thanks for the help. I love this forum. Its unbelievably helpful.

The centipede looking thing is most likely a bristleworm, and a harmless detrivore that makes a good addition to the clean up crew.
Regarding bio balls, I'd do some research on those. The problem with bio-balls is that youre "not supposed to clean them," but then what happens? They capture wastes and other junk, where it sits and rots. Honestly, you're better off with nothing in the chamber in the long run, and I'd highly recommend removing them now (and keeping that area free of detritus).

Looking good! I would also take the bio-balls out. Not needed.

If you decide to take the bio balls out, which I also suggest, I would replace them with Live Rock rubble. Adds to the biological filter but more natural.
Tank looks great!

I got a question. When I went to get my water levels checked at the fish shop (they were perfect) I asked about taking out the Bio Balls and he suggested I keep them in there. Can I get some opinions on if I should take them out?

Hello,
Your water condition may look great at the moment but keep in mind with above post. Over time the bio balls will accumulate waistes. You can probably do a search on the site about bio balls and that will change your mind about keeping them in. Take it out and put some live rock there, its nature and will help filter water. If you have a big spounge like my tank had I would take it out every couple of days and rinse it out in a bucket of ro/di water.
Hope that helps you,
Jim

2 Months In!!!
I bought some solution to get rid of the pesky red algae problem. Tank has been great lately. I bought a couple of hard to find neon blue legged crabs and 2 medium sized snails. I can't believe how great the BioCube tank is.
