would this be a problem?
so im looking for lighting for my 55 gallon bow front tank, its 24" deep, and 36" long. i was looking at 36" mh/pc lighting combo, and the problem im having is that there is a plastic support across the tank that goes from front to back, and im scared that this will melt with mh lighting. so ive been looking at the t5 lighting, and im wondering if i get a 36" strip, will the t5s melt this? also, will this support project a shadow into the tank, and could that be a problem? and last since im thinking of keeping clams in the future(probably 10-12 months from now) how many watts of t5 lighting would be sufficient?
any help or thoughts appreciated

Get a dual MH 36 inch hood. I have my 400 watters over my 90s and it doesn't seem to be melting my cross brace. when it comes to flouresents put as many as you can fit over it.

usualy on the combo mh+pc the mh are offset to either side so therefore they will not be to close to the plastic to be a problem(as long as they are not right over them). I have a combo set on my 72 bow and no issues. I`m not too familiar w/t5 but I am rather positive that nothing yet can match the intensity of MH bulbs and balasts. IMHO If your gonna spend the money and keep clams and in the future sps`s Mhalides would be the way to go. You also get the glitter effects from the MH which are REALLY cool...lol.

Thats a retro kit you would ussually mount it to the inside of your canopy. You will prolly get a heat issue is you use those though. I would recommend making something that you can suspend over the tank from the ceiling so you can raise it if there is a heat issue.

It is recommended in a 24" deep tank to go with 250 watters MH,I have a 24" deep tank and run 2 x 250 watters on mine and the clams do great.
