What Animals Eat Clams

Interested in getting a clam, but wondering if my current invertebrate inhabitants would eat/pick at it. I have the following in a 55g:

2 peppermint shrimps
2 emerald crabs
several blue leg hermits
1 horseshoe crab
1 cleaner shrimp
1 coral banded shrimp
a few Nassarius vibex snails

Do any of these guys eat crocea or maxima clams? Any fish to be aware of?

The stuff you have is OK Look at the clams real good, there is a very small snail(forget name) that eats them.

Some fish will pick clam mantles, angels are one thing that comes to mind, but any fish can go bad. As an example my friend's YT loves nothing better for dessert than a big chunk of Derassa.

How about what anamals clams eat,

All this mucking around can't be great for the clam, but they still do fine.

first thing i would ask myself is do i have what it takes to keep a clam healthy ? biggest thing would be your lighting ! if you have flouresent lighting it may not be enough for a maxima and especially a crocea . you may be better off with a derasa . if you have m.h. lighting than the skys the limit !

Yeah, thanks for the replies all. Like most of you already know and do, I like to do all the research first before adding something. Even it's a cheap fish, still kinda cruel to put something in that's not compatible. Yes, Mr. Lionfish, here's your new tank buddy, Mr. Clown fish...whoa..what the...ahh...stop, stop...oh, it's all over. You get the picture. But with something more expensive like clams, I definitely want to do the research...what eats it? how to feed it?...heard about "plastic bottle cut in half" technique, what lighting it likes?, what flow it likes?, etc.

I have a new Hamilton light on order....2 175W MH and 2 96W. Finally stepping up to MH. I have PCs right now..good for softies and LPS, but wanting to get into SPS and clams.

I was worried about the emerad crab and peppermint shrimp. Both I've seen picking on other corals. I had a toadstool...it could have been dying already, but I keep seeing the emerald crab chewing on it. The peppermint shrimps I just downright hate. I don't have an aiptasia issue, and all they seem to do is pick on things. I had 3..caught 1, so got 2 left on my scope to get.

So I'll probably get a crocea or maybe maxima. It's just an amazing color and pattern. I just don't want to get them and they become really expensive fish food, or I'll starve them.

i would not put a clam in a tank with a horseshoe crab. they are to clumbsy. and i would not be surprised if it would eat the clam.

I am fairly new to this whole reef thing, but I had 4 maxima clams with 2 horseshoe crabs and about 5 nasarius snails among other things. They all got along OK but, one day my largest clam died for some unknown reason. When I replaced him with another it lasted a week and died within a day after looking perfectly fine. What the 2 dead clams had in common was that they had not fully rooted into the LR and a nasarius snail pushed them over and ate through their foot. Anyone else have this problem?

Pick up the clams and look underneath them and on the foot of them they like to hang out there, sometimes you can even see them on the glass.
