Reproduction?

Hi all,

So, here's the deal... I have one Maxima clam and it has been doing fantastically. Lo and behold, after about three months, I noticed a tiny clam underneath the larger clam. At sure I wasn't sure but after looking at it over and over (along with the help of others- and the fact that we can see it open and close) we have ascertained that it is indeed a clam. So, I don't think clams can reproduce asexually, or can they? Or is there another type of tiny clam that is common to tank? It's very mysterious (and cool). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It could be a different type of mollusk that has attached to the side of your maxima, it could also could be a juvenile tridacna that seeded on the side of your maxima, but this is less likely. Please post a pic.

Scotty,

Clams are asexual, meaning they have both male and female reproductive organs. What happens is that they release eggs, then sperm to fertilize it.

However, reproduction in a standard home tank is extremely rare, not to mention that you should have seen the release of sperm as it should have turned your water milky white.

What you have is probably a hitchhiker, but you never know....

Can you update us and post some pics please?
