I just posted a picture of them in my clam thread...
The link I found to identify them is here
It's about 1/3 of the way down the page.

Manual removal is about the only way to get rid of them... but when they're sexually mature they can lay like 120 eggs a day...
The link above says that 6-line wrasses may work, but the snails would have to be out during the daytime for the fish to see them... and the snails are nocturnal... kind of a catch-22.

I don't have clams but do have tons of pyramid snails . I bought a blue pinstripe wrasse and it does eat them when ever it has the chance.
They do come out mostly at night but before I got the wrasse they were all around during lights on.
My tank is SPS and the wrasse is great .

If you have empty shells , take them out as they will hatch their eggs in there. They will also dip deep in the sand. Hard to rid these little buggers.

China wrasses are good for pyramind snail removal. I have had great luck with the yellow coris wrasse. My clams in my 180g all 14 of them are pyramid snail free due to this little fish.

Of course, manual removal is the best, but sometimes these fish can help ya out.

I use a sixline wrasse for control in my tank as do many. But the best way to keep them out of the tank is not to introduce them with new clams. I inspect the shell of any clam I get and brush it with a tooth brush.

I would be interested if anyone had a link to a photo of the egg masses.

Thanks,

AlienDomain

I have been noticing these snails on the shells of my astrea's. Maybe a couple here and there...I have been checking my clams frequently and have found one or two. I read today that the snails are most problematic when they get into the clam through one of it's openings. I guess that's we these things become killers.

They can kill a clam without entering the shell, if they cause the clams mantle to not fully extend the clam will starve.
