I do like to view the clams this way but some of the croceas view very nice through the glass, I like the ones with Gold lace, it looks great through the glass.

Yes Green is nice if you can view it from the top. This clam is from the top looking down, the second image is the SAME clam but looking through the glass side.

Casey, the pigmentation changes with direct spectrum from the light, this is called "physical color". It is a effect of the optical refraction. The angle will change the sectors of the spectrum that is being refected.

I was looking up something but I can't remembert where I read it. Kind of like a rainbow, the way the light appears to shine on it changes the reflections.

Hope that makes sense.

Wow... that is one awesome clam!

Looks like a crocea is going to be on my wish list.

Thanks to all for confirming that I do indeed have a squamosa... I ordered it sight unseen, so I just had to take liveaquaria's word that it was the correct clam.
